ROUND ONE RESPONSE

The following is the Motorsport Ireland Karting Committee’s official response to round one of the 2019 championship, which took place in Mondello Park on April 14th.

Firstly we would like to thank everyone who took the time to give us their feedback around the event, be that through email, survey, on Facebook or verbally. This constructive criticism is greatly appreciated and is needed in order to improve our sport.

We as a committee agree that the event was not run to an acceptable standard and we sincerely apologise to everyone who showed up on the day to support us be that as a driver, entrant, parent, or spectator. We are just as disappointed as you in how the event unfolded.

The following actions are being taken to address the issues raised:

  • We will not return to Mondello Park for the July 14th event
  • We aim to name an alternative track within 24 hours – we do ask that you allow us some grace on this issue, as you can imagine sourcing tracks this late into the season is a difficult task
  • Classes which did not run their full race schedule for Round 1 will receive a €20 discount on their entries for Round 2 (Cadets, X30 Senior, T4, 125)
  • A feedback survey will be circulated after all future events – the feedback received from all of you has been a great help to the committee over the last few days and we really want to continue to keep this line of communication open moving forward

We currently have no update on the issue of allocation of points for round and wish to make no statement regarding same. We are working on this and aim to update you with final ruling within the next 48 hours.

Within the feedback received, several people suggested that we ask for more help / volunteers. This is something we have looked for in the past but unfortunately volunteers have not been forthcoming. With this in mind we think now would be a good opportunity to look at this again.

To give you some perspective on numbers, we require between 16 – 20 people for each event (this doesn’t include the track marshals as this varies per track). This ensures that we have enough bodies on the ground so that they can focus solely on the job they are assigned. If you take Mondello as an example we had a total of 11 volunteers, this just isn’t enough to cover the work required on a race day.

Below we have detailed the positions we need volunteers for and a brief overview of time required and responsibilities. If you are available to volunteer for any of these positions throughout the year please send an email to mikartingsec@gmail.com.

We understand that the above only addresses a selection of the issues raised within the feedback, we have identified the key issues raised and are addressing these first. We will follow up on some issues directly with the person/classes involved. Rest assured that all issues raised have been logged and are being taken very seriously and we will do our best to address them all.

Thank you again for your co-operation in this matter.
